Art
The exhibition The Catholic Factor is an extraordinary and exciting, at parts disturbing art exhibition that brings Polish and German elements of contemporary art together in the Minorite Church and the culture venue Leerer Beutel. Besides works of Joseph Beuys and Tadeusz Kantor, young female and male artists present pictures, installations and objects on catholic themes or pick up on rites, myths and representatives of Catholicism in their iconography.
Music
A spring concert starring the Orchestre de Chambre Universitaire de Clermont-Ferrand (from the French Twin City of Regensburg) and the Symphonic Orchestra of the University of Regensburg is scheduled for 17th May at 3.30 p.m.. The university’s music director Graham Buckland will conduct works of Vivaldi, Handel, the Beatles (in amazing baroque arrangements of Peter Breiner) and Gerschwin. Enjoy listening to classical music in a casual atmosphere and without stiff dress codes.
Swing into Spring is the motto on May 14th at 8. p.m., when the next generation of academics give a performance at the culture venue Leerer Beutel. 19 students from all study fields are the protagonists of the UNI JAZZ ORCHESTRA and share the same enthusiasm and fascination for Jazz. Among them is the renowned Bass trombonist Christian Sommerer, who has already become an institution on the Regensburg Jazz scene. Modern arrangements of Jazz standards like Caravan, Boplicity or Love for Sale are on the program this time.
Music of the roaring twenties will be performed by the Gramophone Orchestra on May 28th at 7.30 p.m. aboard the passenger ship MS Regensburg. Let yourself be tempted to sing along to jazzy melodies or to hit the dance floor. Evergreens and golden oldies are performed by the orchestra in the original sound of the time. A truly memorable music experience! www.jazzclub-regensburg.de
Theater
Mozarts Opera, Le nozze di Figaro is about a young couple who denies a landlord his “right on the first night”. The ingenious libretto of Lorenza da Ponto and Mozarts Music have turned Figaro into one of the most played operas worldwide. Performances: May 15 (premiere), 20, 22, 27, 31 at 7.30 p.m.
The 220th anniversary of the French Revolution is reason enough to add the opera Andrea Chenier of Umberto Giordano to the city theater’s repertoire. Opulent stage design and beautiful voices have made this opera the fastest seller in this theater season. Performances: May 18, 29 at 7.30 p.m.

To those who would like to experience both Bavarian traditions and culture, we recommend a visit to the Spital Cellar in the old Nuremberger Straße No. 12. Best Bavarian popular theater will be performed there at the former bowling alley. If the weather is fine, you will even be able to listen to open air music and cabaret theater in the cozy beer garden outside, with its neighboring beer garden lounge.
