Regensburg in March
March is the perfect month, for taking part in the diverse cultural life of Regensburg. No matter if you are a new Regensburg citizen, working at the University or one of the city’s global players, or if you are just on a cultural trip, you can fully enjoy two major events this month without speaking a word of German. The Thurn and Taxis Comedy and Theatre Festival offers you best of pantomime art and music entertainment and the dance festival Schleudertraum is a great experience without the need of words! A short overview of what else there is to do in our culture month of March can be found on this page.
Music
The time between German carnival and Easter, is traditionally reserved for performances of sacred music, or to be more precise, for the two passion settings of Johann Sebastian Bach. On March 8th, at 8 p.m., at church St. Andrew (in the city district Stadtamhof) you will be able to hear the expressive and dramatic St. John’s Passion performed by the New Chamber Choir and soloists of the College for Church Music.
Only two weeks later, on March 28th, at 8 p.m., the Regensburg Chamber Orchestra and the Philharmonic Choir will give their own interpretation of this oratory.
Also, enjoy the St. Matthew’s Passion boasting an absolutely symmetric orchestration and assembly on April 3rd, at 7 p.m. at the Audimax hall of the University performed by the Regensburg Cathedral Sparrows and conducted by the cathedral’s band master Roland Büchner.
Dance
Those who love modern dance theater shouldn’t miss the Schleudertraum Festival from March 26 to 29, at Regensburg`s university theater. Groups and soloists from the city and region will give a cross sectional sample of their creative doings.
What you can expect is a diverse program, which reaches from awkwardly comical pieces like a dance performance on the topic of speed dating, or the reflection of relation ships between artists (Kandinsky-Münter), and even political performances, e.g. a ballet dealing with the theme North and South Korea
Comedy
Are you up for lighter entertainment or comedy? Then don’t hesitate to book one of the 8 shows during the Thurn and Taxis Comedy and Theater Festival, from March 7th until April 14th. The festival highlight for us is a show with Peter Shub. The American clown puts a spell on the audience anytime he enters the stage without makeup or a red nose, but a few props at his hand. His program is sure to get everyone some good laughs. The star of the legendary circus Roncalli will be Regensburg`s star guest in March.
Art
Those who missed the great Lovis Corinth retrospective that was shown until mid February, now get the chance to at least see the exhibition Corinth on Paper until the 19th of March. The Regensburg collection of Corinth-water color paintings, drawings, print graphics and drafts is one of the biggest and most prominent worldwide.
Sightseeing
Sight seeing tours with long coffee and snack breaks are a fun thing to do in March, that is, if the month shows its sunny spring side.
For every Regensburg tourist, a visit of the St. Peter`s Cathedral, one of the most important buildings of the Bavarian Gothic era, is a must see. It is possible to join a guided tour, daily at two p.m. in which you will see the inaccessible cathedral cloister and the Lombard looking All Hollow`s Chapel, as well as the archaic Stephan Chapel. You will also get a detailed explanation of the interesting glass paintings of the cathedral. Get your ticket reservations at +49 941 597 1660, More information at:
